Writing Tips

Okay... I AM SOOOOO SORRY!!! I know I sorta stopped real quickly with my countdown for Clockwork Prince but I do have this big report I have to write so it's sorta taken up a lot of my time just researching. Anywho (wow, I say that a lot), onto the good stuff.
I was reading a blog of an author I really love when it dawned upon me how often she speaks formally in her writing, especially in her books (no names being said). So I decided to make this post, which will be modified in the future with extra things, about lots of the tips I have gained from reading author blogs, from my family, and from my teachers and friends. So here we go...

WRITING TIPS:

- Always write in the way you would speak or the way that it would please you to here that character speak.
Ex: I ran across the parking lot, trying to catch up to my friends. "Hey!" I shouted, "Wait up!" Elizabeth, my best friend, turned and grinned at me than motioned for the others to increase their pace. "Come on guys, what is what's up? You've been playing "run away from Annie" for two days now..."

- Think like your the characters in the book. How would they react to certain things?
   Ex: n/a

- How do you want the writing to come across? Do you want it romantic, mysterious, heart wrenching, happy, depressing, sad... what?
   Ex: Harry Potter 1- "Happyish"
The Hunger Games- "Haunting/ Sad/ Ominous"
         May Bird- "Creepy/ Haunting"
         Breathe- "Happy/ Cute/ Romantic"

- MEGA IMPORTANT!!! Don't be afraid to write what you want. Express yourself through your writing style. (For me it's that the characters are usually opposite with each other with practically no in between)
Ex: I sat there watching as Linsey ran through the field behind the new house, laughing her head off the entire time. I hated interrupting her fun but I had to. "It's time to come in midget," I called to her.
"Awww," she complained. She held up her fingers close together but not touching, "Just a little more time sissy?" she pleaded. Since it seemed to be my job to stay in the background and just keep her happy I nodded my head and turned to head inside.

This is really all I can think of right now. I know it's not much but I hope it helps you write a little better. There are more to come in future posts (probably) but let this be help you along as little or as much as it can.

SORRY!

Hey there people. I'm sorry I haven't kept up with my CP countdown but I'll post one later today with a few teasers in it to make up. Yesterday I got the book I have been waiting for when I checked the mail box yesterday at 10 p.m.. The Son of Neptune by Rick Riordan! I started it at around 11 p.m. and stayed up till 6 a.m. this morning finishing it... matter of fact, I only woke up about two hours ago. So... before I can post a review of SoN I must first review the Percy Jackson and the Olympians Series. So I know that it's not YA fiction but they're still great books.

Listed below are the books I am willing to review since they are on my shelf (the first in series or just lone books):
- Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by JK Rowling
- The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
- City of Bones by Cassandra Clare
- Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare
- Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan
- Firelight by Sophie Jordan
- Matched by Ally Condie
- Halo by Alexandra Adornetto
- Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead
- Kissed by an Angel 1-3 by Elizabeth Chandler
- Eragon by Christopher Paolini
- The Host by Stephenie Meyer
- Twilight by Stephenie Meyer
- The Iron King by Julie Kagawa

Not on my (library) shelf but able to review:
- Unearthly by Cynthia Hand

Read Well,

♥ Clockwork Prince In ONE Month ♥

Okay, a little less than a month but hey, better late that never right? So for the next couple weeks I will be posting snippets from the other books or Fun Facts in other languages!!! Cool, right? No. Well, I think so. So later today I will post one of my favorite parts from City of Ashes. It's one that made me smile... it was mainly the scene but I think a cold had something to do with making everything 10 times funnier so that scene was just hysterical at the time... if it's not now I'm still posting it cause I know I smile when I read it.

I'm Making A Facebook Page!

Hey All!
So I have been considering doing this for a about a week but, well, haven't. The think is, is that I don't know if I want to put it under Books or Writer... what do you think? And speaking of writing, after looking back at some past beginnings of writings I realized I should at least try and see if I can expand on them, make them larger, make them better. I know my writing isn't the best as shown by the post I put up before but, hey, it's the attempt that counts, right?
If you want me to post another snippet from a "draft" just say so in the comments but what I really want you to do is comment on which I should put by Facebook page under Books, Writer, or (hey why not) teens/kids.

Snow, Snow, Comes my way!

So at 5pm today it looked like this...

By about 10 pm tonight it turned like this...

Since I live in a valley in Colorado this isn't something you would regularly see... especially in early November. My camera really sucks at night but I thought you would love to see this. Anywho... I need rest so night.
